The contrast ratio of white text on (light) Magenta background barely hits 4.5:1 target. As the white is absolute white, the upper limit is fixed. If it can be ensured, that the background Magenta is the lightest the Magenta can be, there is no issue. If a lighter Magenta could be possibly be used, a failure might arise.

Color contrast ratio of grey text on grey background in sidebar (4.8:1), just meeting contrast minimum requirements (4.5:1). Given the contrast ratio and the smaller font size, while meeting the criterion's requirements, text could be more difficult to be read by certain user groups.

Remediation Notes

No remediation necessary, as the contrast ratio does exceed the required ratio slightly.

Link text (blue) on grey background has contrast ratio of 3.9:1 which does not meet color contrast ratio minimum requirements of 4.5:1.

See links in FAQ section panels.

Remediation Notes

Ensure, all text content meets required contrast minimum of 4.5:1 for all text content with font size <24px and 3:1 for all text content with font size ≥24px.

Side Note: this success criterion is not about identification of links. When a link would have no underline and its color is the only way to differentiate from surrounding text, it is considered a failure under 1.4.1 Use of Color. This is not the case here. This criterion is for all text content.

Link text contrast ratio to background is 3.9:1 which is below the minimum ratio of 4.5:1.

Side note: while no failure of WCAG, please check font sizes of text content, especially for important information like legal documents.

The magenta text on dark background for the price information has a contrast ratio of 3.3:1 which meets the required minimum 3:1 for large text (≥24px). The text is set to be exactly 24px in font size. While not a failure of this criterion, alternative display methods should be evaluated when meeting criteria requirements exactly like this.

E.g. simulating a dimmed screen (see screenshot) makes it clear, barely meeting a success criterions required threshold, also means barely NOT meeting it.

Main heading "Telekom Mobilfunk-Netzausbau" is set on background image. Text content set on background, no matter if color, gradient, or image, must meet minimum contrast ratio at all times. Ideally this is checked by taking the text color (rgb(255, 255, 255)) and measuring against similar color in the image (rgb(230, 223, 229)). This results in a contrast ratio of 1.3:1, far below the minimum of 3:1 for large text (and 4.5:1 for normal text).

Remediation Notes

Ensure, all text content meets minimum contrast ratio against its background.

Ideally, do not set text content onto background image unless it is robustly built, so that the closest color of background still meets minimum contrast ratio requirements.

Body copy and FAQ link text barely meets color contrast ratio minimum to its background. #007FAF against #FFFFFF has color contrast ratio of 4.5:1. While this does not constitute a failure of this success criterion, it is best practice to not just meet contrast ratio minimums.

Remediation Notes

Ensure strong enough contrast ratio between text content and its background. In the given situation, a removal of the light blue background color would move the contrast ratio barely above required minimum of 4.5:1.

Ideally, the link color would get a darker shade for use on light backgrounds.

  • White and blue badge "Bei Magenta Moments in der MeinMagenta App!"

  • Magenta text (≤24px) on gray background in "Pässe oder Optionen" table

Remediation Notes

Ensure, all text content is clearly visible, using color contrast ratios of 4.5:1 and higher. For large text content a reduced contrast ratio of 3:1 is acceptable, but not recommended.

Especially color variants that barely meet color contrast ratio requirements for default background colors are subsceptible to fail minimum color contrast ratio, when used on non-default background colors. When a certain color barely meets color contrast ratio on default white background, ensure, this color variant is only used on said background color and provide a different foreground color variant for darker background colors.

Ideally, aim for enhanced contrast ratio 7:1 (see 1.4.6 Contrast (Enhanced) (Level AAA)), to often ensure passing minimum contrast ratio, even on non-default background colors.

Side Note: this success criterion is not specifically about identification of links. When a link would have no underline and its color is the only way to differentiate from surrounding text, it is considered a failure under 1.4.1 Use of Color. This criterion is for all text content.
